RV TAXI
LATCH
Designed for RV Slider canopies.
Pilot workload is addressed with SAFTEY
in mind. Upon landing rotate the knob 90 degrees and
slide the canopy aft during the landing rollout. That’s all there is to it. No turning
around or twisting to find the vent position. The pilot can focus his attention
where it is needed.
INSTALLATION
PLEASE NOTE: The RV8 spring loaded latch is mounted vertical and on the Right roller assembly.
STEP #1
.jpg)
Remove “Left roller assembly ” from frame (to be used later). Using a die grinder, and cut off wheel
remove a little under .125 inches from canopy bow.
Assemble the “original canopy roller”
on the new bracket (kit).
I have included a longer AN 525
washer head bolt to compensate for the additional .125 in. created by the
bracket. You may experiment with washer spacing to fine tune the roller but the
original spacer and washer usually works.
STEP #2.jpg)
Slide the assembled bracket and
original roller into the canopy tube. Fine tune the tube with a file so the original
bolt just fits the bracket and the original hole. This usually takes 15 min. or
less.
STEP #3 .jpg)
Attach the canopy to the airframe and
slide canopy back to desired vent position. I used a 5/16” transfer punch to
locate the taxi position hole in the “TOP of the slider extrusion for the RV8”,
or the SIDE of the extrusion for the RV 6,7,9. (picture #3) Verify that the transfer punch mark is
centered and if satisfied drill hole in the slider extrusion to fit the supplied
Spring Latch Pin (3/16”).
On the RV 6,7, & 9
slide rail extrusion, the
surface of the slide extrusion is narrow, so be careful to get the taxi position
hole in the center. Some of the
earlier slider extrusions may not center up.
STEP #4 .jpg)
The supplied black cap screw with a
nylon plug is used to fill the hole not used by the latch. It is used to fine
tune clearances and be installed with Blue
Loctite.
Combine this with a CANOPY LOCK,
(Van’s catalogue), and enjoy the fresh air.
